Laying epoxy flooring?

Many people understandably assume that installing an epoxy floor is simply a case of arriving on site and applying a quick coat of paint, but the reality is far more detailed and involved.

This article will provide more of an insight into what is involved.

Installing a professional epoxy resin floor is a highly skilled, equipment-intensive process. Around 80% of any successful installation is in the preparation. Preparation is absolutely key to the longevity, performance and appearance of your floor.

Liberty Floor Solutions, are a professional flooring company with many years of expertise and industry experience. We have invested heavily in specialist flooring machinery and equipment to ensure every installation meets commercial standards, most of which will be used to carry out your install.

Our equipment includes:

  • 3 phase industrial diamond grinders
  • Heavy duty generators
  • Professional sanding equipment
  • Specialist diamond attachments
  • Industrial dust extraction systems
  • Full PPE equipment for safe operation

Professional preparation – The foundation of every installation

Concrete floors are rarely ready to coat. Most require mechanical preparation to remove laitance, contaminants, previous coatings and weak surface material. Without this, no coating system will bond correctly.

In fact, in recent years, we’ve noticed a definite decline in the quality of concrete used in the construction of garage flooring for new build dwellings.

This level of preparation is what allows us to offer a standard 5 year warranty on our installations. In reality, we have epoxy floors over six years old that are still performing exceptionally well when maintained correctly and cleaned in line with the OEM guidelines.

Why The Investment Makes Sense

When you invest in a professionally installed epoxy resin floor, you are not paying for “paint”. You are paying for industrial machinery, highly trained installers, technical expertise, proper surface preparation and a system designed to last.

A failed coating installed cheaply will always cost more in the long run once removal and reinstallation are required.

At Liberty Floor Solutions, we install industrial grade 2 pack epoxy resin systems designed for durability, appearance and long term performance. Preparation is everything. And that is where the real value lies.

Above image shows the importance of proper floor preparation, we were called in after the previous contractor used an off the shelf, single pack floor paint, without the necessary substrate preparation.

If you are specifically looking for a single pack floor paint solution, we may not be the right contractor for your project

We DO NOT Use Floor Paint

We do not use single pack floor paint. If you are specifically looking for a single pack floor paint solution, we may not be the right contractor for your project, as we specialise exclusively in professionally installed two pack epoxy resin systems.

Single pack paint has its uses if you are prepared to repaint your facility year in, year out. However, it does not offer the durability, chemical resistance or longevity of a professionally installed two pack epoxy resin system.

Below is a simple comparison:

Feature Single Pack Floor Paint 2 Pack Epoxy Resin System
Preparation Required Minimal or none (often just cleaning) Full mechanical diamond grinding and profiling
Durability Low to moderate High industrial grade performance
Chemical Resistance Limited Excellent
Longevity 6–18 months typical in garages 5+ years when properly maintained
Warranty Rarely offered 5 years standard

What A Proper Epoxy Installation Includes

  1. Full inspection of the existing substrate
  2. Moisture testing where required
  3. Mechanical diamond grinding to open the concrete surface
  4. Crack and defect repairs
  5. Thorough vacuuming and dust removal
  6. Application of a 2 pack epoxy topcoat
  7. Optional decorative flake broadcast and seal coat

Every stage is critical. Cutting corners at any point will affect adhesion, finish and lifespan.

What Influences The Cost?

Prices can fluctuate due to several factors:

  • Job location
  • Time of year and ambient temperatures
  • Quality and condition of the existing substrate
  • Project size
  • Current workload and scheduling

How much will my garage floor cost ?

As a general guide...

  • Single garage: £1,300 – £1,400
  • Double garage: £1,500 – £1,700
  • Triple garage: Around £2,000

Decorative epoxy flake installations are typically approximately 35% on top of a standard epoxy system.

Larger commercial installations can range from £15 – £40 per square metre depending on specification and preparation requirements.
