We recently installed LFS epoxy flake flooring at a double garage in Rugby, Warwickshire. The finished garage floor provides a clean, decorative and hard-wearing surface, combining the practical qualities of a high-build epoxy resin system with the attractive appearance of a decorative flake finish.
The job began with thorough preparation of the existing concrete floor. The surface was mechanically prepared to remove loose material and contaminants while creating a suitable mechanical key for the resin system. Once prepared, several coats of epoxy resin were applied before the decorative flakes were incorporated into the system and the floor was finished with a protective sealer coat. The installation was completed in approximately 1–2 days, depending on the condition of the existing floor and curing times between coats.
Epoxy flake is a popular choice for residential garage flooring because it combines a practical resin floor coating with a decorative finish. The resulting surface is smooth, attractive and easy to clean, making it well suited to a home garage, garage fit out or additional workshop space. For more information about preparing an existing concrete floor, see our guide to garage floor preparation.
We also undertake car workshop flooring and other automotive flooring projects, so an epoxy resin system can be specified for anything from a domestic garage to a more demanding workshop environment.
A practical and decorative garage floor
An epoxy garage floor can make a significant difference to the appearance and usability of a double garage. The seamless resin surface is easy to sweep and clean and can work particularly well alongside garage shelving, storage and wider garage design ideas. The decorative flake finish also provides an attractive alternative to a basic painted concrete floor.
The specification and cost of a garage floor coating depend on factors such as the size and condition of the existing concrete, the level of preparation required and the chosen finish. Our guide to epoxy resin garage floor costs provides further information, while our comparison of concrete floor paint versus two-pack epoxy resin coating explains more about the different options.
