About this project
This South London project focused on thorough concrete floor preparation before the application of an epoxy sealer. Having removed the existing screed and tiles using breaking-out and scabbling equipment, we mechanically removed the remaining bitumen and prepared the concrete substrate ready for the new coating system.
As experienced resin flooring contractors, we know that effective and thorough substrate preparation is the foundation of every successful installation. Concrete floors are rarely ready to coat, so we use specialist equipment to remove laitance, contaminants, previous coatings and weak surface material. For this project, vacuum assisted diamond grinding created a strong mechanical key across the prepared areas, while industrial dust extraction provided effective vacuum extraction of dust and contaminants.
Localised repairs were carried out where required, and the existing expansion joints were fully repaired using LFS mortar repair. Once the surface had been thoroughly cleaned and prepared, the floor was vacuumed to remove any remaining loose material and dust before being sealed and primed with LFS oil tolerant primer XFH.
Professional floor preparation
The foundation of every installation is professional floor preparation. Effective and thorough substrate preparation is key to what we do on every job, because even the best epoxy resin flooring system can fail if it is applied over a poorly prepared surface. Our floor preparation process is selected according to the condition of the existing concrete, the contaminants present and the requirements of the finished system.
A diamond grinder is a heavy-duty machine equipped with diamond-segmented blades or discs, used to level, smooth and clean concrete surfaces while removing laitance, contaminants, previous coatings and weak surface material. Without this mechanical preparation, no coating system will bond correctly. Proper substrate preparation ensures that floor epoxy resin products achieve maximum adhesion, durability and longevity. Our epoxy flooring installation process therefore starts long before the first coat is applied.
We have invested heavily in specialist flooring machinery and equipment to ensure every installation meets commercial standards, with much of this equipment used during each preparation process. Our equipment includes 3 phase industrial diamond grinders, heavy duty generators, professional sanding equipment, specialist diamond attachments, industrial dust extraction systems and full PPE equipment for safe operation.
The preparation and priming work on this South London project was completed as a carefully managed process, allowing the prepared concrete to be left clean, sound and ready for subsequent resin floor coatings. The project demonstrates why professional preparation is such an important part of commercial resin flooring, whether the requirement is for industrial flooring, factory flooring or a specialist workshop environment.
