A floor contractor using a diamond grinding machine

About this project

About this project

We carried out approximately 200㎡ of concrete floor preparation at an industrial premises on Brackmills in Northampton. The existing concrete required mechanical grinding before the specified resin coating system could be applied, so our team used specialist diamond grinding equipment to create a clean, sound and suitably keyed surface.

As experienced resin flooring contractors, we understand that the foundation of every installation is professional floor preparation. Concrete floors are rarely ready to coat, and effective substrate preparation is key to what we do on every job. The diamond grinder removed laitance, weak surface material and contaminants, creating the mechanical key needed for strong adhesion of the subsequent resin floor coatings.

The 200㎡ floor was systematically ground before being thoroughly cleaned using industrial dust extraction. This removed remaining dust and loose material, leaving the concrete ready for the next stage of the installation. Our floor preparation methods are selected according to the condition of the existing substrate and the requirements of the finished flooring system.

Specialist equipment and preparation

A diamond grinder is a heavy-duty machine equipped with diamond-segmented blades or discs, used to level, smooth and clean concrete surfaces while removing laitance, contaminants, previous coatings and weak surface material. Without effective mechanical grinding, coating adhesion can be compromised. Proper substrate preparation helps floor epoxy resin products achieve the adhesion, durability and longevity required in demanding commercial environments.

We have invested heavily in specialist flooring machinery and equipment to ensure every installation meets commercial standards. Our equipment includes 3 phase industrial diamond grinders, heavy duty generators, professional sanding equipment, specialist diamond attachments, industrial dust extraction systems and full PPE equipment for safe operation.

With the concrete suitably prepared and cleaned, the floor was ready for the subsequent priming and coating stages. Our guide to what’s involved in laying epoxy flooring explains how grinding, priming and coating form part of a properly planned installation. For industrial premises such as this, a correctly prepared surface provides the essential starting point for a durable industrial resin flooring system.
