As an experienced resin flooring contractor, we divided the work into three stages to manage the preparation and coating application efficiently. The installation progressed from bolt removal and preparation through patch repairs and the first coat, followed by the second coat. This staged approach allowed each part of the work to be completed properly, with the overall timescale depending on the preparation requirements and curing times between coating applications.
Professional preparation – the foundation of every installation
Floor preparation is a fundamental part of any successful coating installation. Concrete floors are rarely ready to coat, and mechanical preparation may be required to remove laitance, contaminants, previous coatings and weak surface material. This is particularly important on projects such as this, where thousands of fixing points had to be dealt with before coating.
We use specialist commercial flooring equipment for demanding preparation work, including mechanical grinding and industrial dust extraction. Read more about our professional floor preparation methods and what’s involved in laying epoxy flooring.

Stage 1 – bolt removal
The first stage involved removing thousands of bolts that had previously been used to secure racking to the warehouse floor. Once removed, the affected areas could be properly prepared and made ready for the subsequent repair and coating work.
Stage 2 – patch repairs and first coat
With the bolts removed, patch repairs were carried out to the affected areas before the first coat of the epoxy system was applied. Careful preparation at this stage helped create a suitable surface for the coating and provided a consistent base for the final application.
Stage 3 – second coat
The second coat completed the system, providing the warehouse with a hard-wearing Agate Grey finish. The completed surface is suited to the demands of a busy warehouse and forms part of our wider warehouse flooring service.
